CSRD/ESRS from start to finish

SWEDISH VEHICLE INSPECTION COMPANY

In response to evolving sustainability reporting standards, a prominent Swedish vehicle inspection company partnered with Differ to develop a forward-looking strategy. Our partnership enhances transparency, boosts accountability, and showcases our dedication to catalyzing positive change.

A large Swedish vehicle inspection company, wanted to update its materiality analysis to meet the new requirements of GRI 2021 Standard and CSRD/ESRS, the EU directive and reporting standard for corporate sustainability reporting. The company needed to identify and prioritize the areas with the most significant economic, social, and environmental impact for its business and stakeholders, and to align its reporting and strategy with the relevant sustainability topics.

Differ supported the company in conducting a comprehensive materiality analysis according to GRI and ESRS guidelines. The analysis involved the following steps:

  • Understanding the company's context based on its business model, industry, value chain, stakeholders, and mandatory reporting requirements.

  • Identifying the areas with potential impact on the company and its stakeholders, and comparing them with the topic lists from GRI and ESRS.

  • Assessing the impact of the identified areas in terms of positive or negative, actual or potential, and financial or non-financial aspects.

  • Analyzing the significance of the impact based on the extent, prevalence, and likelihood (for potential impact) of the impact on the short, medium and long term.

  • Ranking the areas based on the significance of the impact and setting a threshold for materiality.

  • Deciding the material areas and reporting requirements and including them in the reporting and disclosing the impact, risks and opportunities.

  • Identifying the areas to work actively with and implementing them in the company's policies, goals, strategy, and day to day activities.

Differ used a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods to collect data and insights from various sources, such as internal interviews, workshops, surveys, market research, stakeholder interviews and industry reports. The analysis resulted in a list of material areas for the vehicle inspection company, such as traffic safety, good working conditions, climate and environmental impact from vehicles, and correct corporate behavior and ethics.
